Right off the back of Christmas is the new year, which means new opportunities and new places to visit, so why not visit Scotland this new year and in a VW camper van too? There are so many things to see in this magnificent country, from grand castles and landscapes to touring the coast and wild animals, you can be sure you won't get stuck on what to do. Here are some of the top things to do this new year in Scotland.
Visit the Culloden Battlefield
On 16 April 1746, the last Jacobite Rising came to a brutal end. Jacobite supporters were attempting to restore the Stuart monarchy to the British Throne, yet in a battle that lasted for less than an hour, around 1,500 men were slain and more than 1,000 of them were Jacobites. The stimulating visitor centre features artefacts from both sides and interactive displays that explain the history of the bloody conflict. Travel to this historic site in a camper van and look at hundreds of headstones which mark the fallen clansmen all while an eerie silence falls across the battlefield.
The Highland Wildlife Park
The Highland Wildlife Park is a fantastic day out for all ages and what's more, you can drive around the main reserve in your camper van. If you wish to explore the rest of the park, you can do it on foot. There are many animals to discover, such as red pandas, snow monkeys and beavers to name but a few, all the while in the surroundings of the Highlands.
Most notably featured in The Da Vinci Code, the Rosslyn Chapel has fascinated artists and visitors for many years since it was built. There are countless myths, theories and legends connected with the Chapel, many of which cannot be proved or disproved. It can easily be reached from Edinburgh, and what better way than to do it in a camper van, where warmth and comfort are in abundance.
